A reusable framework for automated link validation, content quality, and data accuracy at scale
01Overview
A global technology organization needed a faster, more reliable way to verify hundreds of published documentation links across a continuously changing service catalog. Broken links, outdated destinations, and content migrations were making manual quality control slow, costly, and difficult to scale.
The solution was an AI-powered link validation automation framework that compares published records with a trusted source, opens each destination through authenticated browser sessions, evaluates content relevance, classifies the result, and records auditable evidence in Excel. Designed for reuse, the framework can support product catalogs, customer portals, knowledge bases, document libraries, campaign assets, and other business-critical digital content.
02Challenge
The catalog hosts a continuously evolving set of service titles, each connected to two critical resources: a readiness plan and a delivery guide. Over time, these links can become mismatched, broken, or redirected because of catalog restructuring, content migrations, product rebranding, and portal updates. Manually validating each link is time-consuming, error-prone, and impractical at scale.
Scale and complexity
The catalog contains a large number of service titles, each requiring two independent link validations, a readiness plan and a delivery guide, resulting in hundreds of validation operations per full run.
Authentication barriers
Many destination URLs are hosted on secure enterprise platforms, including Engineering Hub, SharePoint, Power Apps, and Chrysalis, and require authenticated sessions. Manual validation therefore involved repeated sign-ins and ongoing session management.
Retired and aliased content
The catalog includes both active and retired titles. Delivery guide links may be published under multiple field labels, making automated extraction unreliable without explicit alias detection.
Two-dimensional validation complexity
Each link must be evaluated across two independent dimensions: URL consistency, whether the published link matches the trusted source, and destination content quality, whether the destination presents relevant content for the expected service and technology.
Auditability and traceability
Business stakeholders require structured, verifiable output that can be reviewed and acted upon, with every link clearly classified as correct, incorrect, missing, unavailable, or redirected.
Execution resilience
A full-catalog validation is a long-running process, so the automation must withstand browser restarts, authentication interruptions, temporary navigation failures, and Excel write errors without losing progress.
03Solution
The team implemented an autonomous AI link validation solution in GitHub Copilot, supported by Excel, Microsoft Edge, Playwright Model Context Protocol, and authenticated enterprise interfaces. The workflow completes retrieval, validation, reconciliation, confirmation, and saved-data verification in one controlled run.
1
Retrieve and validate
Read the source and results workbooks, retrieve published links, compare expected values, open destinations, and evaluate rendered content.
2
Reconcile missing links
Search active or retired records before confirming that a resource is missing.
3
Confirm inaccessible destinations
Refresh authorized sessions, retry browser-rendered content and secure interfaces, and check for replacement locations.
4
Verify saved results
Reread Excel output, confirm required records, prevent duplicates, and complete the source item only after verification.
04Impact and Business Value
Validation Speed
Business Outcome
A full catalog can be validated in one autonomous run in 90 minutes, replacing weeks of manual checking.
Business Value
More time for high-value work: Teams can focus on resolving issues instead of manually finding and validating them.
Accuracy & Quality
Business Outcome
Multi-step reconciliation reduces false missing and unavailable results.
Business Value
Consistent quality: Every record is evaluated using the same validation rules.
Operational Resilience
Business Outcome
Checkpoint recovery prevents temporary failures from restarting the entire batch.
Business Value
Lower operational effort: Validation can continue efficiently even when temporary failures occur.
Auditability
Business Outcome
Every validation produces structured evidence, a clear status, a content summary, and a timestamp.
Business Value
Stronger audit readiness: Timestamped evidence supports compliance and reporting.
Scalability
Business Outcome
The same engine can validate thousands of records without a proportional increase in effort.
Business Value
Scalable governance: Validation volume can grow without a matching increase in operational effort.
Digital Risk Reduction
Business Outcome
Outdated or incorrect content can be identified through the validation process.
Business Value
Lower digital risk: Issues can be addressed before incorrect or outdated content affects users.
05A Reusable Validation Framework
The solution follows a flexible “validate anything” model: define what should be true, inspect what is published, compare the two, apply business rules, and preserve evidence. This makes the framework valuable for automated data validation, content governance, link monitoring, and digital quality assurance.
Potential applications include: product and service catalogs, knowledge bases, customer portals, partner documentation, data migrations, compliance evidence, learning content, customer records, landing pages, tracking links, and campaign assets.
